The History of the wedding rings~Matt Jacks

The wedding ring, that most famous and instantly recognizable symbol of the
(hopefully perpetual) joining of a man and a woman as husband and wife in the
institution of marriage, has a long, wide spread and mysterious history. Its
beginnings lie in the deserts of North Africa, where the ancient Egyptian
civilization sprang up along the fertile flood plains of the river Nile. This
river was bringer of all fortune and life to the Pharaoh’s people and from
plants growing on its’ banks were the first wedding rings fashioned. Sedges,
rushes and reeds, growing alongside the well-known papyrus were twisted and
braided into rings for fingers and larger bracelets for wrists.
The ring is of course a circle and this was the symbol of eternity for the
Egyptians as well as many other ancient cultures. It had no beginning and no
end, like time. It returned to itself, like life; and the shape was worshipped
in the form of the Sun and the Moon. The hole in the center of the ring is not
just space either; it is important in its own right as the symbol of the
gateway, or door; leading to things and events both known and unknown.
It is not difficult therefore, to see how the ring and the gift of a ring
began to be associated with love, in the hope that this most worthy of emotions
could take on the characteristics of the circle and capture eternity.
They wore it like we do today, on the third finger of the left hand, because
of a belief that the vein of that finger directly traveled from the heart. This
legend was later taken up by the Greeks, when they conquered Egypt under the
generalship of Alexander the Great in 332 B.C. and from them passed onto the
Romans, who called this the ‘vena amoris’, which is Latin for ‘the vein of love’.
These early rings usually lasted about a single year before wear and tear
took their inevitable toll. Hemp was probably the first choice, but some decided
that they wanted a longer lasting material, and opted for leather, bone or ivory
to craft their token of love.

Tips for your Thank you notes

• Send them as quickly as possible, it is easier to do it as your gifts come in, this way you are not overwhelmed all at once.

• Make sure you make specific reference to the gift (thank you for the towel set, it will go perfect in our powder room.)

• Always send notes to the hostess after a party that was in your honor

• Remember the vendors that helped make your day special, it means a lot. (this is optional)

• Keep the notes personal, hand write them, this lets your guests know you care and are truly thankful

• When addressing your thank you notes they should be addressed to the person who signed the card.

Invitation timeline

Six months ahead

Take time to choose your invitations, remember the invitation you send your guests is the first unveiling of how your special day will be.

Four to six months ahead

Order your wedding invitations, make sure to order all your other stationery needs, ex: thank you cards, announcements, reception cards this way you will not have to worry about them when the wedding date gets closer.

Six weeks ahead

To make sure you have the right postage always go to the post office with the completely assembled invitation, remember square invitations require a higher postage. If you are sending international send your invitations eight weeks prior.

Day of the wedding

Mail announcements to friends or family who were not invited to the wedding, have a friend do this for you, of course we do not want you to have to worry about it on your special day so make sure you delegate in advance.

When I woke up I listened to I Gotta Feeling because I just knew we were were going to have a good night. I believe you have to tell the universe what you want, and this is what I wanted.

We had our elite members who have been with us since the beginning and some new faces that I cannot wait to build our relationship. The Pay it Forward concept that The Papery Willow and The Wedding Connectors live by is also lived by many others and it is amazing how they come to you. I heard alot last night from various people that they felt good feelings in the studio it just felt right, and that meant alot to me. People just kept coming in and I was so grateful to all the were there.

When I had this vision of The Wedding Connectors last October this is what I saw everything is happening and I am so excited, I set out to make a change and people see it and appreciate it, and the room showed it.

Driving home all I could do is reflect on the evening and smile, maybe a small little tear came out along the way, I realized I found my purpose and I am doing what I am suppose to be doing, with The Papery Willow I am creating beautiful invitations and learning about a couples journey in their new life together, and in The Wedding Connectors I amd helping others and making changes.

I want to thank everyone who has supported my vison from the beginning and stayed by my side, and to those who are just getting to know us we hope you stick around because this is going to be a journey you will not want to miss and we are all going to do it together, and this comes from my heart.

I know it has been a while, but I think I am back on track.
I am very excited to announce that The Papery Willow has a new home, we have finally opened a studio in the Denver area, we are now located off Broadway, we would love to have you stop by.
I want to thank my husband for helping me so much, he went driving all over with me looking for great finds to fill the space. He has been a huge supporter of me. We still have a little more decorating to do but things are coming together. I finally feel like things are coming together, I have climbed the next step, and will be ready for the next. This is only the beginning of my big dream, I hope to have a full retail space in a year or so. The studio is open to the public and we have some great neighbors.

She likes the distressed look so when I found these papers I knew it was it. The line is from BoBunny the Mama-Razzi line.

I received a 126 Kodak Instamatic camera as a gift from my aunt and uncle when I was five years old. Unlike many of the gifts that I received throughout the years, which were “too old” for my age, this mature gift suited me just right. A trip to Washington D.C. initiated my debut in photography, causing my parents to comment admiringly on my seemingly natural ability to taking pictures. I guess I just had an eye for artistic expression through photography!

I continued perfecting my craft and developing my talent throughout high school and college. In college, I received formal training in photography and art, and made money as a “party pic girl,” taking pictures at various sorority and fraternity functions. After college, I was fortunate to work with several amazing and accomplished mentors, which helped me perfect my craft and establish myself as a professional photographer.

I was fortunate to know what I wanted my life’s work to be from a very young age. I have always known that photography is my niche. I love the finished product, that’s for sure, but getting to know people is the most enjoyable part of my job. I love sitting down with new clients during our initial consultation and really finding out who they are and what they love – and then translating their essence into a finished work of art that they will cherish forever. It is immensely rewarding.

Photography can really be a window to the soul, if the photographer and the client are relaxed and open to being authentic. I trust that, if I bring my authentic self to my work, clients are free to be themselves as well. That really shows in my work and is a central reason why clients come back again and again, and why after knowing them for just a short time I feel joyfully immersed in their lives.

Photography is my great love, and sharing it with the world in such a personal way is my passion. Anyone who knows me would undoubtedly agree that the one thing that defines me is my passion for everything I do. Whether it’s hiking in nature, cooking a gourmet meal, or taking a picture, I give it all of my focus and attention. I started learning about photography in the early 90’s and began seeing the world through light and lens. After many years of shooting for fun, that passion evolved into a business.

The Thank you card

The most important thing in business is to always send a Thank You card after you have met with a client. I have posted this before but only because I am so passionate about it. I can't tell you how many times I have had a client tell me how much they liked the thank you card they received. This will leave a lasting impression and set you apart from the rest.

Here are some new thank you cards I created, I absolutely love the color combo, any time I can use black I do. This is a flat A2 (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") the edges are scalloped. Your clients would love getting this in the mail.

I made my way down to Castle Rock this weekend for the grand opening of Wedding Treasures a new bridal store in the Castle Rock outlet mall. Heather (the owner) is such a joy. She has some beautiful dresses for weddings and prom. As always we must support our local businesses.

This was my favorite one, of course black and white how can you go wrong? maybe one day I can talk her into letting me try on a dress :) I never had a wedding dress, but my Husband and I will renew our vows at our 20 yr wedding anniversary, so I have about 5 yrs to plan a wedding.

The details on the below dress were amazing, the picture does not do it justice.

My first month

I can't believe it is February already. I am now taking time to look back at this last month, since getting laid off I went through many emotions, I knew it was a sign that I had bigger things planned for my future. I cannot believe this journey I have had, I have met some amazing people since starting The Wedding Connectors and have realized that my bigger plan was to help others with their business. I never dreamed it would be this successful in such a short time. Every day I am faced with new challenges, pressures and obstacles to overcome, and the craziest thing is.. I LOVE IT! I love being pushed to the limit... I feel as though now I have people counting on me and that keeps me going 110% strong. I know work full time with two of my businesses, it feels good to actually say I am self employed, it is really hard work and I find myself working very long hours, but it is worth it. I am fortunate to have a very understanding family who puts up with me working allot, but I am glad that I am here for them just a couple steps away.

Follow me on my blog as I begin this wonderful journey, I have learned so much in this past month and cannot wait to learn more.

WOW! is all I can say, what a wonderful event this was. I have not done to many bridal shows, for the simple reason you have to be careful, as a small business owner you have to be careful where your $$ goes and this was well worth every cent the BIG shows are not for me, I like the smaller ones, this way you can spend more time with the brides coming through.

I recently did a tasting at Villa Parker and was inspired by Cori Cook floral design she had a beautiful table setup with yellow, white and damask it was simply beautiful, I told her that was my next project, I made these for today's show.

I also wanted to thank Adrienne of Moving Moments, she came and helped me out today, what a great gal, so glad she came into my life. She did one heck of a selling job for me, you would have thought she worked for the company for years, the way she spoke to the brides about The Papery Willow.

Photography Tips for the Plus-Sized Bride, and The Photographer

As a married woman, who is overweight, I have a unique perspective on how it feels to be in the "Plus-Size" category. I think that our media does a great job at telling overweight women that they are not as beautiful as their skinny counterparts. I do a great job of telling you gorgeous ladies otherwise. I believe (truly) that all women are beautiful, and it is up to me as a photographer to capture the beauty that is already there, and show it to you. I do understand that there are certain angles that are just not as flattering to someone with a little more meat on their bones. So here are 4 tips from me to you about photographing the plus-size (or any) bride, and about choosing a great photographer:

1. Photographers: Don't photograph them if you do not think that they are amazing and radiant and beautiful. Seriously. If you don't think they are truly beautiful and that you can make them shine, don't take their business. refer them to a professional photographer friend.

Brides (of any size): If you talk with a photographer, and they don't make you feel A.M.A.Z.I.N.G., find a different one, even if they cost more money. Trust me, you'll love yourself and your photos if you do!

2. Photographers: Once you know that you are "for" your client, make sure to affirm them (you should be doing this anyways, but I think it is important to note here) on their wedding day.

Brides: if you are uncertain about this, ask the photographer for at least 1 referral, someone you can talk to directly to see how they felt on their wedding day with that photographer. Also, look on their website to see if there are any "plus-sized" brides displayed. Even if there aren't any, and you and this photographer connect really well, you should be able to feel confident in your photographer selection. So book them before your date is taken.

3. Photographers: Angles, angles, angles. Its all about the angles. There is a little more to be aware of when photographing plus-sized brides. Arms for instance. A good way to minimize arm size in any bride is to break it up. Use the veil to help frame her face, while bringing attention away from the arms. In bride and groom shots, you can have the grooms hand on the upper part of the arm. Do not photograph a larger bride straight on. Turn her body slightly, and look for flattering angles. Do not photograph her from below her face, if anything, have the camera angle slightly above where she is standing or sitting. If she tilts her head up toward you, it can minimize a larger face size.

Brides: If you have an area that you are particularly self-conscious of, tell your photographer in advance, and be sure to remind them. Be realistic though. You want pictures of you, not your head pasted on a photo of a super-model (although...)

4. Photographers: I personally am against using photoshop to slim a bride down. I want her to see herself as beautiful whether she is big or not, and I feel that by using photoshop to make them skinny, it perpetuates the idea that plus-sized brides are not beautiful. If you are not against it, and your client wants it, then that is another option for you.

Brides: Ask your photographer if they have "slimmed" down any of the brides in their portfolio. And if you are larger, ask them if they feel confident they can capture you and your beauty on that day. Ask them how they will minimize your size. I am plus-sized right now, and I love it when my photographer friends capture me at just the right angle that I can see how beautiful I am. I am not distracted by all of my imperfections, but instead, I see someone amazing, lovely, and beautiful. That's what your photographer should help you see.

So, the long awaited engagement has finally come, and now you’re finding yourself in that state of planning limbo where you’re not yet married, you’re not really dating any longer, and yet the only thing you can do is plan for one big day. While there certainly are endless duties to perform, appointments to set and details to finalize, the last thing you want is for something to pop up at the last minute and ruin your big day. Along with a good pedicure and a glass of wine, the following ten tips will help you to face your big day without worrying about what might go wrong.

10 Steps to a Stress-Free Wedding Day

1. Delegate duties & tasks

You’ve planned all the tiny details leading up to today, including the placement of the rose petals as you process down the aisle, and it’s going to be gorgeous. Remember that this day is all about you and your spouse-to-be, but it doesn’t have to all be done by you. Enlist the help of those eager relatives or friends you just couldn’t find a place for as attendants, and make sure that the guest book, programs, and maps & directions for the reception each have a person willing and ready to take the appropriate action. Have someone call around for pricing on transportation, music, etc. and allow others to take ownership of your wedding by giving them a task to perform. Ask people whom you trust will be responsible, and in the end, you’ll have peace of mind that someone else is accountable for it.

2. Make a budget and stick to it

This is paramount to having a fantastic wedding day. At the beginning of the process, think through things very realistically and determine exactly how much you want to spend on your wedding. Then, during the planning process, try to come in under budget so that you won’t have to worry about those last-minute expenses that always seem to pop up. If you need to, ask someone else who recently got married what expenses occurred that they didn’t foresee, and then try to plan for them. If you go over budget, you’ll start seeing your beautiful decorations as wads of wasted cash. It’s much better to spend what you know you can afford, and then truly enjoy the day you’ve worked on and planned out for so long.

3. Settle the terms in writing

This step is easy, but often forgotten. You’ve found the DJ/florist/caterer, etc. of your dreams, but don’t start daydreaming about how wonderful it’s going to be without first signing a contract. A contract will need to state the final cost to you, payment terms and schedules, and exactly what’s expected of the service provider. Do they need to be at the venue early to set up? Put it in writing. Anything you just assume they’ll do needs to go in the contract because otherwise, what you expect and what you get may be two very different things.

4. Pay for a rehearsal – plan it with the officiant

Some venues and officiants don’t include a rehearsal with their packages, but offer the rehearsal time as a separate expense. Make sure you pay for the rehearsal! It will make your wedding day less stressful for everyone if they know where to stand, when to process, when to recess, and what the service will be like. You wouldn’t take a test without studying, neither should you have a wedding without the rehearsal.

5.Give the wedding party a timeline

About two or three weeks prior to the wedding day, make sure that you send your wedding party a schedule of events. This will not only make your life easier, but it will also make your attendants much happier if they know exactly what is expected of them. Make sure you have extras to hand out to important people as needed.

6. Have someone do a walkthrough of the venue

Here’s where Step #1 comes in again, so delegate a responsible person to walk through your venue the day before or morning of the wedding. This person will check to make sure that all decorations are in place, and that everything is perfect. She will also need to be able to have the ability to fix things that aren’t right, and get them ready for the ceremony/reception. If you are having your ceremony and reception in two different places, consider having one person for each venue. That way, they won’t be overwhelmed, and you’ll rest assured that they were as thorough as they needed to be.

7. Be comfortable with your transportation

A ride with your new spouse in a horse-drawn carriage makes for a spectacular photo op, but if you’re allergic to animals, this is one of the worst choices for you. If you’ve considered renting a car, make sure that you know how to drive it (some antique cars only come in standard 5 speed) or that you’ve appointed a responsible driver. Definitely avoid letting your Uncle Eddie drive you from the church to the reception if he’s been known to consider stop signs as “optional.” Make sure that whatever transportation you use, you’ve set the terms with the company regarding returns, time covered for use of the vehicle, and number of riders.

8. Make sure your professional is professional

When hiring a professional, whether it be a photographer, caterer, florist, or the like, make sure that you meet in person whomever will be at the venue on your wedding day. Maybe the price is great, the flowers look amazing, and the photographs look divine, but there are other factors to consider. Make sure that you and your professional can get along; they should make you feel at ease, not stressed out when you meet. Also, listen for any cues of unprofessionalism, such as complaining about prior events, gossiping about other brides, or comparing themselves to competitors in a tasteless way. All of these clues should tell you that the professional, although talented in their area, may not be right for you. Remember, it’s your big day, and negative people like this simply aren’t needed.

9. Prepare FAQ sheets for guests

A frequent complaint of wedding-goers is that they had no idea what was going on. Help your guests out by providing simple printouts after the ceremony that address some of those more frequent queries. Make sure to have the address and directions to the ceremony site, but then also include your wedding announcement, where you will honeymoon, and any other information you’d like to share with them. This way, even if they don’t get to chat with you for as long as you’d like, they’ll feel more included in your special day.

10. Know that it will be perfect without being perfect

It’s important to remember that nothing will be perfect. However, this is good for two reasons: 1. It will give you something special to remember about your ceremony that you and your spouse can reminisce about fondly over the years to come. 2. It is great practice for dealing with those minor things that happen during a marriage and will make it richer and more interesting.

Remember, it’s your wedding day, and it’s going to be perfect…even if it’s not perfect!

Five Leaves Coffee House

I ventured out to a quaint little coffee shop today, it is located in Englewood called Five Leaves. This is a family owned business which makes it even better, I try as much as I can to support our locals. I wish I lived closer I would probably be there a couple times a week if not more. I met with the owners Rebekah and Todd, what a great couple. I went there in hopes of finding another networking place and of course so I could support them as well, they were very happy to help in any way. I hope to be having some networking groups there.

If you are in the neighborhood or if you just want to take a drive this is a must see.

Villa Parker Tasting with The Food Guy

What a wonderful evening, I just experienced at the Villa Parker I had the opportunity to be a vendor at this tasting that was catered by The Food Guy what a great experience for the bride and groom and the vendors involved. This experience is intimate and you have the opportunity to really get to know the couples. I will take this any day over a BIG wedding show that you have to pay 500.00 for a spot. This kind of event is relaxed, the couples do not feel pressured and pushed so you can get on to the next person. What people do not understand is, it is about building a relationships with the couples, it is not the number of people you get but the quality you spend with them.
I can't wait for the next tasting, this was a treat as we got to sit with the couples to a wonderful meal and get to know them, it was not about the $$$$ we just talked about different stuff, nice change.

On another note; if you are planning on getting married, reunion, graduation, business meeting Villa Parker is the place to be, it is amazing.

Our holiday celebration starts at my Mom's on Christmas Eve, we have been doing it that way since us kids have been out of the house, it is a tradition that will carry on for many years to come.

Christmas Day

I started my morning at 6:30 with a good old cup of Joe

As I suspected Kayla had already gotten up and looked in her stocking, she lays everything on the floor then goes back to bed, I think I will have to be more creative next year, there is only so much you can put in there.

The girls opened presents, I could not believe how much Santa did this year, but note to self: (next year write down where you hid presents) I must have forgotten at least three of Kayla's.

Next on our agenda for the day is to go over Aunt Becky's for dinner, and boy was the food good.

There are so many more pictures but we would be here for days. We then headed over to Chris' parents for a bit, then to my Dad's to celebrate. Every year my Dad make chili and home-made tortillas (mmmmm good)

It was a treat to be able to see our grandkids, we were not sure if we would be able to this year, I wanted to get pictures of us together because I did not know when the next time would be that we would be together again, I hope that my daughter realizes it is vital for them to be a part of our lives.

That was our Holiday, and I am so blessed to have my family around me, they mean so much to me.

Today I am reflecting a little on the future Christmas' for the Canacari family, even though the kids are older it is time for new traditions to start, and to put some to rest and keep as a great memory. I am already thinking of next year, (yeah scary huh) I now have to the time to focus on all the precious things, life is to short and we may not be here as long as we like so I want to make sure I leave fond memories behind for my girls.

For the first time in history I had the tree down and the house back to normal the day after christmas, usually I leave everthing up until after the new year, but having a real tree this year it was ready to come down. Plus I have a lot going on for the new year and need to focus, I will share that later.

Tis the season

It has been a while since I have posted something, it is amazing how time just goes by, I cannot believe it is already going to be Christmas? I was a little worried this year due to I got laid off my job, my end date was to be November 30th. I just had to take a deep breath and know that everything was going to be ok. I knew my kids and everyone else would understand that Christmas would be a little thin, but it would be hard for me since I love the season and I love giving. Then I got word that they would be extending my stay for another 30 days, I was happy, now I knew everything was going to be ok.

This year we decided to get a real tree, at first I was excited but remembered why we have had artificial, so next year we will go back to that. But I was happy when we bought the tree that a portion went to a charity of our choice so that was a good thing.

I also belong to a moms group Moms like me and although I do not post as much as I use to, I still keep up with some things and when I heard they were adopting 4-5 families this year I had to jump in, we bought some gifts for some of the kids and I also made little treats for the kids, I was happy to do this since I use to make all kinds of little treats when my girls were younger for their classmates, but since they are older 12 & 17 I don't do that anymore, but I did make these for my daughters co-workers. It is tough when you do not have little ones, you miss out on doing the little crafty things. Although I do have two small grandkids my daughter has taken all that away from me, we don't get to see them, and it is very sad, but that is a whole other story, I will just focus on the positive this Christmas season and enjoy my family.

I also started another project called The Wedding Connectors I created this due to there were no networking groups for people in the wedding industry, we have already had two meet-ups and they have been great successes. We plan on doing a wedding show, bridal luncheons, and other great events. The people that I have met have the same passion as I do and it is so exciting. So if you are a local vendor or no someone who is getting married come to us.

Enough of my rambling :) that is it for now I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season. Remember to embrace what you have, give to others and celebrate each day.

Cards for a Cause

I am very excited to about this project, we will be carrying Cards for a Cause. This is the first of several to come. Now when you purchase one of these cards not only will you make the person you are sending it to feel special because you sent them a hand-made card, but you will also be helping to contribute for a cause.
Each card is $5.00 and 50% of that will go towards cancer research.

My Mother, and Step-Mother survived cancer, my aunt Bunny did not, she passed away when I was a young girl, I think about me, will I get it? will my daughters get it? these cards are my way of giving back.

We will also be carrying a line of cards for your furry friends, each card will be inspired by our family pets, be on the look out for those to come soon. There are so many animals that are abused everyday, these are animals without a voice, lets be their voice and help make a difference.

A rockin Halloween party

Friday I had the pleasure of enjoying a Halloween party with the girls, it was held at Cherokee Ranch in Castle Rock. we had such a great time. This place is beautiful, as you drive up a dirt road filled with trees and wild life you already begin to get the feel of this magical place, if you are having a event or wedding this is a must place to go visit, you will not be dissappointed.

They had a live band Mid-life crisis who totally rocked the house, this is the second time I have seen this band and they are a must see or if you are having a party you must hire them. There was a dance floor full of people at all times and I think I must have burned a million calories that night.

Ok so I have posted Christmas and Thanksgiving stuff, I guess it is better late then never that I finally post some Halloween stuff.

This is a cute little treat bag that can carry candy or your baked goods.

I love the snow, today I actually stayed in and watched the snow fall, I have been making lots of good treats I can't wait to show.

I got in the mood for Thanksgiving today. I decided to make a little ensemble that consisted of a favor box, place card, and a card (with the card you can either use it for an invitation or something to just send out to all the people you care about.

With the table cards instead of putting your guests name on it, I decided to create different quotes on the card, with these placed all around the table your guests will be able to read each one.

This set can be custom made to what ever them or color you are planning for your holiday dinner.

Busy weekend= more creativity=meeting=so much to tell

I wanted to share with you a couple of things I made this weekend. I got a little excited and started some Christmas cards already, ya I know it is only October, but I could not resist.

I also made a cute note pad, I use a 4x6 sticky note pad and covered it.

I am going to work on some Thanksgiving stuff next but just wanted to do a test run on some Christmas cards.

I also went to a couple of bridal shows this weekend just to take a peek. I met a wonderful lady from Snow Mountain Ranch in Winter Park, her name is Stacy Horn, she was such a joy to chat with, I hope to do some business with her in the future.

I have also been doing alot of back office work on my business, boy can that be time consuming, I am still trying to get my husband to pick up some of that slack but I think he likes helping put invitations together better :)

Now on to some other news I am just thrilled about. I had a meeting with an old friend last week Rebekah and I am happy to announce that The Papery Willow is partnering up with 5280 wedding connection to build a vendor network group for the wedding vendors in our community, our first meeting is November 8th.

We are building this group to help promote the local vendors in the wedding industry, I wanted to create this because there are no networking groups for the wedding vendors and if there are not to many, there are tons of other great networking groups but they just did not seem to fit with what I was doing or trying to promote.

We are looking for some great things to happen in 2010

and a chance to give back to our community

Things are looking good and I am so excited to have found someone to partner with that has the same passion as I.

I also decided to apply for the leading lady award by Ladies who launch

this is another great resource that I am going to become very active in. So many things have clouded my vision this year and now I am free of it and ready to do what I have to do and do what I want to do. Some people feel their way is the only way, I feel it is your choice to make, there is no right way or wrong way as long as you learn from your mistakes, turn your negative it to positve and move on, the ones who do not move on are the ones who will not succeed, I refuse to be the one who does not succeed. I am committed to helping others grow their business by promoting them, and giving the encourement they need. I feel it is so important to have a mentor when building your business and in the past have not had any mentor, but I am on the right track now.

so keep on checking back and watch me grow, everytime I am hit with a hardball I get up and fight even harder.

If you know me, you will know that I can't do anything normal :) Since my new adventure with my business and new look I can't just hand out a normal business card I have to make it better, I think it is good to leave an impression when handing out your cards, whether you are at a networking event or a show, take that extra step to jazz up the way you present your business card.

I made a card about 3 1/8 x 5 1/8 and stamped "thank you" on a oval punch out and inked the edges. I then stamped a tree on the front with versamark, this creates a watermark on the paper for tone on tone.

I put my business card on the inside with clear photo corner, then put each one in a glassine envelope, and there you go, what a great way to make a first impression.

The Holiday season

I love this time of year, the holidays are such wonderful times. I will be making several projects to help you through the holiday season, cards, kits, even little favor treats you can make for your child at school, my kids are older so I don't get to make treat bags for them anymore, they always make the reply back " MOM we are to old for that" so I will make them up for other Moms. I am also going to having some contests and give aways, so check back often it is going to be a fun time.

These are some framed layouts I have been working on. I love these, they make great gifts or if you want to showcase a special moment without making a full scrapbook this is the best way to go. You can choose to have them put in a frame or put them on canvas. I am so glad that I have a weight lifted and I am able to create again, this is my passion and I love doing it, that almost got taken away from me, that is why I made the changes I did to be my own company again and do what I love doing. It is a snowy cold day here and I am enjoying my time being able to make beautiful things. I am back on a roll and strong again. Enjoy and check back for more great stuff.

Alot has been going on. I recently decided to leave The Paper Maven and do my own thing again. Although my last year with The Paper Maven has been an experience and I have learned alot and met some great people, it was time for me to move on.I have great things in my future and goals that I want to meet. Don’t be surprised if someday you see The Papery Willow studio, that is next on my list.

I recently became a partner at the Villa Parker if you plan on having any kind of an event you must check this place out, it is beautiful.

I want to thank everyone for all of your support over the years as I have changed my path with my company many times and have gone through maybe a name or two. I would like to introduce The Papery Willow

I am excited with this new chapter in my life and feel that what I have gone through in the past is only making me stronger.

I also want to thank an old friend, we were best friends in junior high and because of facebook we were reunited. Giving back to children

First Annual
Give back to the children

The holiday season is upon us and I would like to start a chain effect of giving back. I am reaching out to friends and family to help me with this amazing journey. This will be the first of many, it was hard to choose as children, animals and the elderly touch my heart. I will be collecting and buying stuffed animals to hand out at The Children’s Hospital the week of Christmas. To do this I will need your help, let’s all put a smile on these sick children and wish them a merry Christmas from all of us. As a parent I am so blessed to have healthy children and could not imagine having my child sick and in the hospital, some children are there for a day and some are there for weeks at a time. Could you imagine being in the hospital at Christmas time?
I will also be making hand-made Christmas cards to hand out with the stuffed animals.
This will be the first of many things I would like to do in the future. In the past I have made Christmas ornaments for an assisted living home for my Step-Mom, her mother was in the home and has passed away recently, I am glad I had the opportunity to share a small gift with everyone there. My family and I also donated our time to an Alzheimer’s home for Valentine’s Day. So you can see how important it is to give back, it is the greatest feeling in the world.

Converting over

I am going to be changing from my wordpress blog to this one. Please be patient as I make the transition, not sure if I want to move everything over or just start from scratch? Things have been going great, my website is coming together, business is picking up and I am already getting ready for 2010 wedding season. I hope to do a couple of shows next year, I wanted to do one this year but some people thought it was a waste of time, but I feel you won't know until you try.
